Developing a Quality Management System for the Automotive Sector in Kent – ISO 9001:2015 and IATF 16949:2016
AvISO has recently worked on a project in Frant, Kent with Jota Advanced Engineering, specialists in the design, development and manufacturing of precision components in various engineering sectors.
From our first meeting, it was clear that Jota had well-established controls embedded across their organisation and a positive history with IASO 9001. However, planned business growth and the future implementation of IATF16949:2016 meant that a revised format of their Quality Management System (QMS) was required to incorporate and expand with the business and the transition to the ISO9001:2015.
The key areas of this project were to implement ISO 9001:2015 whilst considering the requirements of IATF 16949:2016 throughout the implementation to ensure that a framework was developed capable of incorporating the extended requirements in the future, as IATF 16949:2016 is not intended to be a stand-alone QMS, instead the supplementary requirements must be incorporated into an ISO 9001 Management System.
This project was led by AvISO consultant, Oliver Leaney. We asked Oliver for his thoughts on the project;
“When I first met the team at Jota it quickly became clear that their existing Quality Management System (QMS), not certified by a UKAS body, was not providing the platform to manage quality and continual improvement that the business required. AvISO’s task was, therefore, to completely rebuild their QMS from the ground up to meet the client’s needs and transition to the 2015 version of ISO 9001.
The second stage of the project, now underway, is to help Jota achieve IATF 16949:2016 (Automotive Standard). We had to consider the requirements of IATF16949 throughout the development of the ISO 9001 system to ensure this could more easily be incorporated at a later date.
The team at Jota Advanced Engineering completely embraced the quality standard and realise the positive impact ISO 9001:2015 can have on a growing business.
