Updates protection for sites of special scientific interest (SSSIs) from potentially damaging operations. The CRoW Act provides a new statutory rights of access to open country and registered common land, modernises the rights of way system, gives greater protection to Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSIs), provides better management arrangements for Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONBs), and strengthens wildlife enforcement legislation.
Section 74 of the Act also lists habitats and species of principal importance for the conservation of biological diversity in England. The Act places new duties on statutory undertakers and public bodies in respect of SSSIs and imposes restrictions on them when carrying out or authorising activities which affect a SSSI.
The relevant conservation body must be consulted before any development or activities occur in or near to an SSSI. The company must ensure that it has the relevant authority and follows the appropriate regulations when conducting work on public lands and
