in brief

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme aims to support motor sport and mobility organisations, evaluating and elevating their environmental performance. By establishing a clear and consistent approach to environmental management within these sectors, stakeholders are provided with a three-level framework to accredit their activities. There are three levels of accreditation designed to help organisations measure and improve their performance.

Bronze (One-Star) Basic Practice:

Organisations must demonstrate basic environmental performance and a commitment to improve. This includes having some basic policies and measures in place to reduce environmental impact.

Silver (Two Star) Good Practice:

This level requires organisations to show good environmental performance. They should be aligned with internationally recognised environmental management roadmaps and standards. Compared to the bronze level, this involves more comprehensive and structured environmental practices.

Gold (Three Star) Best Practice:

Organisations need to demonstrate best practices in environmental management. This includes a strong commitment to continuous improvement through the implementation of a thorough and effective environmental management system. An on-site audit is required for this level to ensure the highest standards are met.

WHO CAN APPLY FOR FIA ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATION?

Various stakeholders involved in motorsport and mobility, including teams, events, circuits, and other organisations, can apply for FIA Environmental Accreditation.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HAVING

FIA Environmental Accreditation provides a structured framework for improving environmental practices, reducing activities' ecological footprint, and demonstrating a commitment to sustainability. The FIA accreditation is mandatory in some championships.

WHAT IS THE FIA ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATIONS' THREE LEVELS?

One-star Basic practice: Demonstrates basic performance and a commitment to improving environmental performance.

WHY DO WE NEED FIA ENVIRONMENTAL ACCREDITATION?

FIA Environmental Accreditation demonstrates a commitment to more sustainable practices and encourages the reduction of environmental impacts through structured management. The accreditation promotes efficient resource use, reducing waste and operational costs. Additionally, it enhances the organisation's reputation, building trust with clients and the public. This certification supports environmental goals and contributes to overall business success and credibility in the marketplace.

HOW DOES FIA CORRELATE WITH ISO 14001?

The FIA Environmental Accreditation Programme links to ISO 14001 through their shared goals of promoting effective environmental management and sustainability. Both frameworks emphasise continuous improvement, regulatory compliance, and performance measurement.

WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FIA AND ISO 14001?

The FIA programme provides specific guidance and benchmarks relevant to the motorsport industry, whereas ISO 14001 is broader and more generic, applicable to a wide range of industries.
